how to run an event at hack club
august 21, 2026
i've run counterspell, shipwrecked, campfire flagship, and horizons along with some local events (hacknight at my high school and boston's counterspell, scrapyard, and daydream). each one taught me something different, and each time i've improved on things and made new mistakes.
i've spent a lot of time running events, and i've also spent a lot of time communicating what i've learned to people who haven't before. i wanted to write a guide that would outlast me - something that would transfer everything i've learned to everyone who comes after me.
running events at hack club is an extremely difficult but meaningful endevor. at the end of the day, our events change people's lives, and i wanted to help as many people do that as possible by giving them the resources they need to run great events.
i wrote up everything i could think of that i've learned into one big guide - from the idea all the way through the execution. it's a living document as things change, so i'm leaving it as a google doc rather than a blog post.
if you want to know about everything that goes into an event at hack club or are running one yourself, read the full guide here :)
